چکیده

Abstract Background Continuous and non-judicial application of synthetic insecticides to control the tea thrips, Scirtothrips bispinosus (Bagnall), one major pests in South India has led certain undesirable issues ecosystem besides presence pesticide residues manufactured tea. Biological agents are immense importance cultivation. The present study was designed isolate Lecanicillium lecanii (Zimmermann) Zare & Gama from field-collected cadavers insects/mites infected by fungi growing areas Anamallais (Tamil Nadu, India), evaluate their field bio-efficacy against thrips. Results isolated had been formulated into a wettable powder (WP) formulation evaluated thrips under both laboratory conditions. Among several media evaluated, PDAY (Potato Dextrose Agar + 1% Yeast powder) found be best suitable medium for growth germination spores. Optimum conditions L. were at pH 6-7, temperature 25-30°C 90-95% RH. Exposure UV light more than 30 min significantly inhibited fungus. (1 × 10 7 spore/ha) effective Fungal development index (FDI) jaggery differed other treatments. 1500g (1×10 conidia/ml) mixed 400 l water Addition equal amount with tank mixture could increase efficacy mycopesticide Conclusion safer natural enemies ecosystem. After fulfilling requirements its registration label claim on tea, this strain commercialized benefit industry management an eco-friendly manner.

Catching Thrips (thysanoptera: Thripidae) with Various Traps

Various traps were evaluated for capture of western flower thrips, Franklinella occidentalis (Pergande). More thrips were attracted to blue sticky cards compared with yellow or white cards. With the addition of blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) thrips numbers on blue cards increased 2.2 fold. The numbers of thrips caught per 10cm on blue sticky cups were 2.4 times more than on blue sticky cards...
